What We Don’t Believe.
We thought it would probably make more sense to tell you what we don’t believe, before we start listing what our beliefs are and the scriptural references for them.

We don’t believe in endless squabbles about the minutia of this particular point or that. We believe that there is plenty of room in a true believer’s heart to accommodate a little flexibility. There are already plenty of things that we must be absolutely inflexible about in our walk. To add more and possibly present our brothers and sisters a spiritual stumbling block would be self-defeating. We want to walk in His way (that’s where we got the name) and He set the precedent by accepting all and excluding none.

Here’s a prime example of what we mean by that. Baptism is not required for salvation, but it does mark a very important moment in a believer’s spiritual journey and is a strong outward witness to the church community of one’s commitment to living a more Christlike life among the church family. There are three types of water baptism normally practiced in various denominations of Christian Churches; they are aspersion or sprinkling; affusion or pouring, and of course full immersion. The Pastor refers to them as spritzers, drizzlers, and drowners.

The Way Walkers Church will not require you to be baptized again if you have already done so elsewhere but encourages you to do so as an outward witness to the church family of your sincerity in becoming one with them in both their and your walk with Christ. Whether you would like to be spritzed, drizzled or drowned is a personal choice and entirely up to you. The Church will gladly accommodate your choice.

There is another point about baptism and our young to be made. In this Church we do not perform baptism on members who have not yet reached the age of accountability because after all that is what it is about – the informed and mature decision to leave one type of existence behind to commit to another. There should be no specific number set as that age, since maturity and awareness happen to each in their own good time. Children should not be pressured to be baptized and should come to the decision on their own as a natural result of their studies and inward reflections. But of course, babies and children may be christened at any time if requested by the parents or guardians.

Hopefully that gives you some idea about what we mean by flexibility in our beliefs. We think everyone should want to be baptized and we think they should be baptized in a manner they find acceptable – it is after all their personal decision to commit to Jesus, and they should come to Him the way they think best. We aren’t going to squabble if they want to be sprinkled or poured – we are just going to be glad for them. The Pastor says that if they want to undergo all three types of baptism so they can work their way up to a good dunking or an out-n-out drowning, he’s okay with that too.
